Where's Wally...I Mean Fionn?

Fionn continues his escapades somewere down-under. Latest reports suggest he is heading to The Big Day Out this weekend. Has done loads of surfing and is preparing for his jaunt to Indonesia next....jealous!? Nahhhhhhh.....

His last known whereabouts is cruising down an unknown dune somewhere out West.

Well it's been a while since our last post. Summer has been and gone, and the winter is setting in well. John and Fionn have been on a surfing trip to Mexico and had a host of adventures there.

Back in the studio we have been busy working on projects for life coaches, Cornwall Council and BIDs, finishing a new couple of films, and starting new ones. No rest for the wicked. We will get some photos and videos up in the next day or so.

Well its been a month since our last post and we've been beavering away finishing projects and starting others. We linked up with Frugi organic clothing again to produce a little time lapse video of them moving office, which they were very happy with.

The Shark project we have been working on with Richard Peirce is finished and will be shown at the Dive Show in Birmingham in October.

We watched an incredible piece of filmmaking on channel4 recently called THE COVE, if you haven't already then make sure you watch this and educate yourself, then go here and sign the petition to end this atrocity! http://apps.facebook.com/causes/petitions/252

Johns grandson Josh has arrived and is here keeping us entertained and on edge as he marauds around armed with his plastic guns and Lego.

Chickens

We have a young man who calls himself Elliott with us for work experience and as well as making a banging cup 'o tea we gave him the camera and set him loose among the Chickens. These Chickens are from a Chicken rehoming charity that rescues them from a battery and we then rehomed 6. Camera and Editing by Elliott.

Well it's been a while since the last post, John and Fionn have been off to Papua New Guinea, Thailand, and managed a quick couple of days in Bali surfing in between filming clownfish farms, and being sold dodgy visas on entry to Vietnam.

Eddie was sent off to Houston Texas to pick up a Gates underwater housing for our new Sony EX1 cameras, as it was the only one left in the world at the time, massive thanks to Joe Holley from marinevisions.com for hooking us up with that!

Now back in the studio we have been fishing for moorings in the harbour (successfully) filmed a taster for award winning ethical clothing company Frugi, and built a chicken coop, and almost finished filming with Shark Trust chairman Richard Pierce for a project called Shark Attack Britain all whilst waiting for a new edit suite to be delivered so Fionn can finally do some work!

New Toy

We have just unwrapped our new Go Pro HD cam. It's a very impressive bit of kit. Should give us some insane angles to utilise. Here is Fionn giving it a go doing the first water test. Gagging to take it out in some proper waves!

Happenings

Well John and Fionn have jet set off to Panama for some sand sea and surf. Last time I spoke to John and Fionn they had just found themselves an amazing place to stay with a really good right hand point break in the front garden, and a good beach break just round the corner, so no doubt they will both be getting plenty of time in the water. Jealous...me?....noooooo....

Since they have been gone the waves here in Porthleven have been amazing. Biggest i think i have ever seen it. Insanely crowded out in the water though which sucks. Where do they all come from? Anyways here is a little video of the stuff i shot in between working, and sneaking a quick half hour surf in.

Still getting to grips with the housing, the session i got in with it turned out over exposed, as i had set it up for the grey flat light, then the sun came out! Never mind. It was pretty hectic and a good 4-6ft on the sets and i wasn't too keen on catching one on the head. Brings a new found sense of respect for the work of surf photographers like Mickey Smith and the frankly insane places they place themselves in the heaviest of wave spots.

Water Housing

Well it works. For the past year now we've had a project going to build our own surf housing for our cameras. For a time it didn't look like we'd ever get it done, but finally it is done. Water testing has been fun. It doesn't leak so now its a question of getting buttons added, for zoom controls and recording. So far we just seal it up and use the remote to turn it on and fix the focus on infinity and hitting record and going til the tape runs out. Eddie and Fionn are super amped to get it in the water as often as possible, get some good practice at positioning and everything. So if you be going wave riding, give us a shout!

latest news and ambling alps

Been a while since the last post. We had a hectic festive period, what with flying back and forth to Washington to bring Josh over and take him back, Xmas and New Year festivities and then snowboarding for a week. First day on the slopes and John managed to break a rib, cutting his trip short and heading to Paris to hang out in cafes alongside the bourgeoisie, but is recovering well just in time for his and Fionns upcoming trip to Panama.

Fionn did an edit recently of an artist called Drums of Death who has some pumping tunes. He played at the One Eyed Cat in Truro and is looking like an act to watch during 2010.

Big Boy Toys

We were filming down at Rosevale mine down in the deep depths of west Penwith, and our friendly mine enthusiast, and general nice guy Tony Bennett let us loose with a rock drill and air leg. We were recreating the feeling of an old working mine, hence the period dress!

Jake the Snake

We have a snake in the studio. Fact. Ladies and Gentlemen the newest member of the sharkbayfilms team is Jake aka Gurdoosh, aka Colin the 2year old 5foot long Boa Constrictor. He's a beaut. And is settling in nicely. Come and have a cuddle if your passing.

UROLINK

We did a project with a couple of surgeons John Mcgrath & Jon Aning from The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital for a charity called urolink. We produced an instructional dvd on circumcision and a hydrocele. Which for three blokes was quite a challenge to film without eyes watering! After a further meeting with John Mcgrath we will be working on a couple more projects in early 2010. But for now its nice to know that our work is in Tanzania, and Kurdistan and on its way to Ethiopia to help in the healthcare and wellbeing of people living over there.

Cornish Mining World Heritage

We are currently dashing about the county working on a project for the Cornish Mines and Engines discovery centre in East Pool. We have been commissioned by Cornish Mining World Heritage and The National Trust to produce their new video documenting the history of Cornish Mining. This is a fascinating project to be involved in and we are getting some great access to old photos and video footage that shows how the landscape around Cornwall has come to be today.

We have also been down the recently re-opened South Crofty which was intriguing, here are a couple of photos or them core sampling and one of the old workings.

We'll keep you updated on our progress. SBF
